What are matted prints?

Matted prints are images with a mat around them. This mat is usually a thick matboard that sits in front of the image, creating a visual space around it. If you order a matted print, your print on paper will come encased in the mat for a cleaner visual look.

This printing method provides additional stability. It also protects an image from direct contact with a glass frame, limiting the chances of damage.

This mounting option works well for:

  • Displaying images individually in a frame: The matted border creates a clean visual space around an image, adding to its visual presentation.
  • Storing images: Matboard creates a protective shell, so images stay safer when placed in archival boxes.

Do prints on paper come matted and framed?

All prints on paper come unmatted and unframed as standard. Matting and framing is available on request.

Do prints come with a border???? ?

What sizes of prints do you offer????? ?

Do you provide a "hanging kit" with an original artwork?

A hanging kit is included with the purchase of an original artwork.

What is glazing?

Glazing refers to the protective material—either glass or acrylic—placed over the artwork in a frame. More than just a transparent shield, glazing offers UV protection, glare reduction, and a physical barrier against dust, scratches, and environmental damage.

What types of glazing do you recommend?

Atmos recommends using UV-protective glazing to protect your artworks and fine art prints. Examples of UV-protective glazing can be found below.

Artglass AR 70
Artglass AR 70 offers basic UV protection. The 70% UV block is achieved through manipulations of light while making the glass invisible. It is enough to protect durable artworks and art mediums.

Artglass AR 92
While not qualified as a conservation-grade UV protection, Artglass AR 92 offers elevated protection that comes with the anti-reflective coating production process.

Artglass UV 99
Maximum UV protection ensures up to 100% protection from damaging ultraviolet light.

Artglass AR 99 Water White
Maximum UV protection ensures up to 100% protection from damaging ultraviolet light.

AR 99 Protect (shatter-resistant)
Maximum UV protection ensures up to 100% protection from damaging ultraviolet light.

Artglass Lifetime Acrylic (shatter-resistant)
Maximum UV protection ensures up to 100% protection from damaging ultraviolet light.

Can your art be displayed in direct or indirect sunlight?

Certain works of art can withstand light and sun exposure, while others should never be hung in front of a window under any circumstances. The deciding factor for whether or not your artwork can be hung in direct or indirect sunlight is the media and materials it is created from.

Atmos does not recommend hanging artworks or fine art prints in direct or indirect sunlight. Placing an artwork in direct or indirect sunlight may cause it to warp or fade, depending on the piece of artwork and the type of glazing that is used as part of the framing process for the artwork.

Sometimes, direct or indirect sunlight just can’t be solved for in a room that gets certain exposures throughout the day. Instead of leaving the walls of bright rooms bare, Atmos advises art collectors to choose what you hang there wisely and to be aware of any potential risks.

If hanging an artwork in direct or indirect sunlight, Atmos recommends using UV-protective glazing (such as Artglass UV 99). UV-protective glazing filters up to 100% of UV light, protecting artworks from fading and other types of deterioration associated with UV light damage.

Artworks that can withstand some sunlight
Most oil paintings will do just fine in the sun, with very little fading, so long as there is no exposed canvas (sunlight can damage canvas, but not through the oil paint). Artworks made from acrylic paint are also resilient and typically can withstand sunlight.

Artworks that cannot withstand sunlight
Watercolour artworks should never be hung in direct or indirect sunlight, as they are vulnerable to fast fading. The same goes for artworks on paper and fine art prints (such as photography prints), as even indirect sunlight can cause fading. This is even the case with frames which use UV-protective glazing, since they cannot prevent all sun damage.
