Atmos is committed to producing 100% vegan-friendly products*, meaning that they contain no animals, animal by-products, and animal derivatives–a leading cause of climate change and damage to the environment.

Packaging

Atmos aims to use the most environmentally friendly packaging for products and for shipping. Where packaging is required, Atmos makes sure to use biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable materials–with an emphasis on using plastic only when absolutely necessary (and is otherwise unavoidable). Products are packaged using recyclable and recycled packaging where possible (such as paper insulation or bubble wrap repurposed from deliveries Atmos receives).

Product Materials and Production Processes

Atmos uses vegan-friendly art materials and tools, inks, papers, canvases, frames, glazing, glues, envelopes, and bindings in the production of fine art prints (prints on paper and prints on canvas), greetings cards, books, apparel, homeware, and other products, to the full extent possible.

Reuse, Reduce, Recycle

Reuse Packaging: Atmos encourages his customers to reuse packaging where possible (such as using carboard boxes for storage).

Disposal of Shipping Packaging: Cardboard boxes, paper, card, and envelopes can be recycled through regular recycling.

The sleeves used for housing fine art prints on paper and greetings cards are made from NATIVIA® film that has been accredited to EN 13432 and ‘OK biobased’. They are made from Plant Based (annually renewable) PLA derived from vegetable starches (corn, sugar beet, or potatoes) and are compostable and biodegradable. It takes less energy to produce NATIVIA® film and, therefore, it has a lower carbon footprint than other oil-based plastics, such as polypropylene (PP), polythene (PE), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The Compostable PLA film sleeves that Atmos Art supplies are designed to allow end users to compost them at the end of life, as an alternative to sending them straight to landfill.

The following is a rough guide to their disposal at end of life:

NATIVIA® PLA film is suitable for:

• Industrial Composting
• Incineration (thermal recovery)

NATIVIA® PLA film is NOT suitable for:

• Home recycling (it should not go in with plastic bottle recycling collections)
• Paper recycling (it should not be put in with paper recycling collections)

NATIVIA® PLA film can also be:

• Disposed through Landfill (Although there are no adverse effects – it will remain inert and not biodegrade due to low moisture content).

• Recycled Mechanically or Chemically: But as both of these are specialist industrial processes they cannot be regarded as suitable at end of life for most purposes.

• Home Composting: Although accredited for Industrial composting NATIVIA® PLA film is not accredited up to the level of OK Compost Home. This is because in many parts of the UK / EU local temperature and humidity will not be high enough to guarantee that it will break down by biological action to at least 90% within 6 months - as required to meet the accreditation criteria. However, that doesn’t mean to say that they will not break down at all. With the presence of suitable bacteria / fungi to start the process, the film will break down into compost, but it will take much longer.

Littering: PLA film is designed for composting but that does not negate any responsibility for inappropriate disposal at the end of life. Compostability is not an excuse for littering the environment!

Future Goals

Atmos hopes to grow Atmos Art without compromising his values, and he is working to reduce his carbon footprint while making a positive impact. This ongoing effort is also made possible by his supportive and environmentally conscious customers. In the future, Atmos would like to become a carbon neutral certified business that uses 100% green and renewable energy.

*Please note that some products may or may not be vegan-friendly (such as original artworks that were created prior to Atmos’ commitment to producing original artworks using only vegan-friendly materials and equipment). Vegan-friendly products are clearly labelled on product pages by a symbol and/or text. Products which do not use either of these labels may or may not be vegan-friendly and Atmos makes no guarantee that these products are 100% vegan-friendly. Customers purchase these products at their own risk and Atmos accepts no liability for products which are purchased by customers who are under the impression that they are 100% vegan-friendly.
